Our fall fundraiser is underway! You should have received an Affy Tapple order form with instructions in your student’s folder (if not, you can download them online here . Order forms and checks are due Friday, October 13. Please take orders from friends, family, neighbors and co-workers - you’ll be pleased to find many people want to support our school! Incentives and prizes awarded to individual students and classrooms!

Reading Reading Log's will be due Friday 9/29. Students are expected to read for 30 minutes every night. Students will also be expected to locate a surprising element of their independent reading book. Students will use text evidence to explain how this part of their book is surprising. Math In math we will be studying volume. Home links will be sent home nightly. The home link will be due the next morning. Monday - Home link 1.8 Tuesday - Home link 1.9 Wednesday - Home link 1.10 Thursday - Home link 1.11 Reading Reading Log's will be due Friday 9/22. Students are expected to read for 30 minutes every night. Students will also be expected to summarize their reading.

This week in Reader’s Workshop students will continue to learn about the Daily 5 Workshop Model we use throughout the year. Students will complete a variety of reading activities that show their reading interests and preferences. Students will also learn how to manage their own reading list. In Math we will continue reviewing concepts mastered in 4th grade. Students will also identify concepts and explore strategies for finding areas of rectangles with fractional side lengths. Students will use those strategies to find the area of rectangles with fractional sides. Notes and Reminders:

We had a great first day back, and it was a pleasure getting to know all of the students! I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. I am so excited for this new school year, and to be your teacher. I am sure that your experiences in 5th grade will be a year filled with learning, memorable experiences, and fun! This week we will spend a lot of time going over school-wide/classroom procedures and expectations. At the beginning of each week I will post a weekly overview of what we will be doing in Reader’s Workshop and Math on this blog, as well as weekly homework assignments.
