Families,
It is hard to believe that we have already completed the second week of remote learning. This week I have observed that more students are engaged, turning in work, and participating in our daily Meets. I would like to recognize students' hard work, and I would also like to recognize you for being there on the other side supporting your child when needed. Thank you. After reviewing classwork from the week, I have emailed students about missing assignments. Sometimes the work is unfinished, and in other cases, students have just not Turned in or "marked as done" on their assignment. I will be reviewing the Google Classroom turn-in procedures with our class during our Monday meeting. I know this system is new to many, and we are all navigating this together! Additionally, I can connect you to our google classroom if you have a GMAIL account. Please message me if you would like to be connected to the classroom. You will receive weekly reports so that you can keep track of your child's progress. If you would like to be connected to our online GRADING SYSTEM, Aspen, please contact Ray School's office for assistance.Monitoring your child's grades online is still the best way to track progress. As posted on Class Dojo last week, 5th grade will be using the attached rubric to grade weekly assignments. Please remember that as CPS develops Remote Learning, grading may be subject to change. wishing safety and health, Ms. Erickson

Families,
As I'm sure many of you know, Governor Pritzker has ordered school building to be closed for the remainder of the school year. I miss being in the classroom with Team 315! Despite all of this, we will continue to meet virtually. Last week I was thrilled to meet with our class in Google Meets and on Google Classroom. I am also incredibly proud of the perseverance of our students and families to engaging in Remote Learning. Thank you parents and guardians for supporting the learning that is taking place, and for your flexibility during this difficult time. 4th quarter starts Monday and 3rd quarter Report Cards will be mailed home by CPS. Normally, we would have Report Card pick up conferences on Wednesday. Please reach out if you would like to discuss grades/progress with me. You can send a message on Class DOJO or send me an email at [email protected]. I am looking forward to the week of learning ahead, and to interacting as a class. Wishing safety and health to all of our families. Ms. Erickson Families,
I am terribly sorry for my missing posts this week. I have been having technical difficulties with my blog platform. I have been posting in CLASS DOJO, you can find all updates on that platform. Thanks for your patience. The highlight of the week has been the daily Google Meet Read alouds! I am working to get all students connected. Please see below for information about grading. Please reach out for any questions or concerns. In Solidarity, Ms. Erickson Fifth Grade Families, Thank you for your patience regarding remote learning. We are doing our best to help all families implement a structure that will work well specifically for you. Please utilize the suggested schedule shared online if you are looking for more structure, and reach out when questions arise. We all have dedicated “office time’ for parent contact. As you know, today is the last day of Quarter 3. Report Cards will be mailed home. Thank you so much to the students that have turned in completed work to their teachers over the last four weeks. Students will receive points to enrich their grades for the three weeks before Spring Break. Additionally, students will receive one reading and math grade for this past week of work. We will use our common rubric to grade student work:
Please ensure your child completes their reading and math work on Google Classroom and on Khan Academy. Because assigned work before spring break was enrichment, students will receive an excused mark for any work not turned in to the teacher. As the Illinois State Board of Education has stated, no grade can be lower than it was on Monday, March 16th. We welcome all questions as we try to work together during this unprecedented time. More information about fourth quarter grading will be available next week. Stay healthy and safe, The Fifth Grade Team Good afternoon families,
When we return from "spring break" we will be gin remote learning. If you are in need of technology please let me know so that I can communicate this with our administration. Devices are not yet available to pick-up. I will be sure to communicate the pick-up procedures with families when I get that information. Thank you for your continued flexibility during this time. I will be posting information on class DOJO and my class blog about remote learning at the start of each week. I will continue to use the Google Classroom and Khan Academy platforms. I am pleased that all students in 315 have connected to our Team 315 google classroom. If you have having connectivity problems please reach out to me and I will be happy to help. Additionally, feel free to reach out to me if you are in need of any other supports. We are in this together and I want to do all I can to assist. In solidarity, Ms. Erickson |
